Youth Leadership

Muhlenberg Youth Leadership is a one-of-a-kind leadership program which launched in October 2014. Youth Leadership was developed and organized by a group of Leadership Muhlenberg graduates and facilitated by the Greater Muhlenberg Chamber of Commerce. Each year, 20 high school students are selected to participate in the year long program.

The Youth Leadership group meets once per month. The monthly programs cover such topics as county government, social services, volunteerism, health care, technology, college survival, and much more. Students learn leadership and problem-solving skills, meet leaders in their community, and have worthwhile discussions on how to make Muhlenberg County an even better place to live, work and play.

The highly competitive program is open to juniors and seniors in Muhlenberg County. Our goal is to provide each student the advantage of getting to know their community better and an awareness of leadership opportunities available to them.

As part of Youth Leadership, students compete for a $1,000 Project Give Back Grant. The students choose a 501(c)3 organization to partner with and develop a presentation to give during Youth Leadership graduation to raise awareness for existing programs or propose additional initiatives for those non-profit organizations.

“This program was easily the biggest surprise of my junior year. I knew that it would be an enriching environment to be in, but I really didn’t know what I was getting myself into. I just thought it was something that would look good on applications, but Leadership made me a better person. It taught me to compromise, and how to find the fun in every situation. Every single meeting was a thrilling day full of activities that I will never forget.”
